Back at it!!!

Well, it has been quite some time since I have updated this blog. Nothing was really transpiring in the racing and training department since I completely cracked in 2008 and bailed on just about anything athletic for over 2 years. In that time, I left my home and friends in Boulder and moved back to San Diego to co-parent my daughter Alex. I got a great little duplex a block off of the beach in Encinitas and pretty much fucked off for 2 years. In that time, I also managed to gain 20 lbs by eating burgers and washing them down with IPA's at the Encinitas Alehouse. I just don't have the metabolism I once had and it has been a bitch to get rid of the excess weight.

During this last fall, I traveled out to Maui to see my good friend Michael Stone race the Xterra world championships in Wailea. If you don't know who Michael is, you should check him out here at www.steppingstonesports.com. You see, Michael is a sight-challenged athlete and he has been racing multisports for about a decade now. I met Michael through our good friend Wes Hobsen in Kona in 2002 and he has become one of my dearest and closest friend over the years. Anyway, Michael was racing in Maui with Jared Berg as a guide for the 2nd year in a row. Michael and I have spent hours training together and just hanging out being friends. Michael's sight has greatly diminished over the last couple of years and I thing the end of his racing days may come sooner than any of us realize. Because I love his spirit and love him dearly as a friend, going to Maui to watch him race was very inspiring and as anyone who knows me well will tell you...I don't get inspired too easily anymore. That being said, I made the decision in Maui that I wasn't about to let my apathy prevent me from having a fun racing season with Michael traveling to races and spending more time together. So, I've made the decision to come back one more time and give a season of Xterra racing a go. I love the course in Maui and still feel I have some unfinished business there. I've got some help from some great friends who are motivating me to train and eat properly and if I can get a good, solid winter in, I just might be in Maui in October as more than an observer.

More to follow...assuming that anyone reads this anymore....
